The idea of the US as a moral and religious authority legitimises it's political and military interventions worldwide, as the country sees itself as responsible for spreading universal values such as liberty, freedom and progression. The role of the President as a symbol of the unity of the nation is very central for these rhetorics, and so is the extreme usage of the dichotomy of good and evil. The US actually claims to have God on their side, which means that every enemy and opponent should be eliminated. This is very well pictured by the phrase “God bless America” particularly used by George W. Bush after 9/11. Creating a gap between “us” and “them” has been, and is still, used successfully as a political strategy. }, keywords = {“Propaganda” George W.
