La «periferia» irlandese in prospettiva storica TT - AB - Ireland's geographical position has caused it to be seen as a subordinated counterpart to Great Britain. It has also defined it's role in both a European and global context. The paper analyses the country's geographical, historical and economical background, focusing especially on it's centre – periphery position and the consequences of British colonialism. Ireland's development during the second half of the twentieth century was immense. From being a country coloured by poverty, famine and emigration, Ireland is now called “The Celtic Tiger”. Irish national history is now studied and put on the agenda, to a smaller extent connected to the English history. AD - CY - Bologna DO - 10.1473/stor383
